Hybrids or a vehicle that runs on more than one type of propulsion are not a new technology. There have been various types of hybrids around for most of the last century. The most common configuration is a gas engine supplemented by an electric motor or an electric motor supplemented by a hydrogen powered engine. There are many other types and depending on the size of your motor or engine and the size of your battery or fuel cell or fuel tank you will get varying results when it comes to mileage and power.
Some good examples of today’s hybrid technology and the cars it powers are the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid and the Lexus RX 400h. All of these vehicles are in different price ranges and meant to serve different purposes but they still all employ hybrid technology in one form or another. Hybrids are very popular even though they are still somewhat costly due to the complexity of their technology simply because they pollute less and travel farther while doing so. So if you want to help cut your dependence on foreign oil and save the earth while you do a hybrid may be for you. Remember it’s not only good for Mother Nature its good for your wallet when you do not have to keep stopping to fill up.
